Spring Reset

sergey-shmidt-koy6FlCCy5s-unsplash-300x200 Spring Reset As more and more patients are getting Covid vaccinations, they are coming in for acupuncture and bodywork appointments and unraveling some of the trauma and discomfort of the past year.

So many have been through so much. Loss. Isolation. Fear. Anxiety. Collectively, we are having a reckoning with the entrenched systems of racism and injustice baked into this society. Climate change is hitting hard with fires and storms.

Fear, uncertainty and outrage have gotten buried beneath the sheer effort of getting through the days. Some unwinding is in order.

If you find yourself still holding your breath, carrying knots in your muscles or are stressed about the return of social plans, I hope you can be gentle with yourself! Collective anxiety is running high.

As you may know, I’ve been doing 3-week Resets for about 7 years now, and it’s developed into a thrice yearly ritual that our little community uses to focus on self-care and optimal nourishment. This year, I couldn’t bring myself to do one in the fall. The election, mass protests against police brutality and the urgency of local fires made any idea of restriction feel superfluous.

But I mustered up the gumption for a Reset in January and found that we all needed to focus gently on our health and habits in community. It was a deep and delicious experience.

So here we are, getting ready for another! May 2-22.

Why Reset?
Research into optimal diet is always changing. A quick look on PubMed will confirm the benefits of vastly different eating plans, such as vegan diet, ketogenic eating, raw foods, Mediterranean diet, high fat, low fat, low carb, intermittent fasting and much more. The truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all “right” diet. So much depends on where you live, where your ancestors were from, and what your personal nutritional needs are.

Some facts are commonly agreed on. As Michael Pollan advocates, “Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.” Eating primarily plant-based foods even if you are an omnivore, choosing healthy fats and avoiding sugar, refined carbohydrates, packaged foods and trans fats suits pretty much everyone.

In the Reset, you will hone your food choices to a simpler diet for a few weeks so that you can listen to your body more closely and understand more about your particular needs.

New Collaborations = Nutrition + Savings + Delight
I’m excited to announce collaborations with 3 woman-owned superfood businesses that include discounts for Resetters ! It’s easier than ever to nourish yourself with ease. I’ll tell you more about them in the coming weeks, but I’ll introduce them here as well.

Golden Roots Kitchen is a long-time partner. They are local to the Santa Cruz area and provide impeccably sourced restaurant-quality food to your door. If you’re in the area, you won’t want to miss checking out their delicious offerings.

TopSeedz offers grain-free seed crackers and a cracker mix to make at home. They are the tastiest treats and a great base for spreads and avocado toast.

Loona Seeds are a seed- and herb-based condiment that you can sprinkle on almost anything. They use blends to support hormone balance and you can use different blends at different times of the month. I am a medical advisor for them and can attest to their formulas (and tastiness!).
